The Historical District is one of the main attractions of Salvador, with streets (including Rua Direita de Santo Antonio) and preserved architectural monuments from an era when Brazil was still a colony.

The nightlife in Salvador is plenty exciting.  High-end neighborhoos such as Pituba, Iguatemi, and Rio Vermelho became meeting points for different social groups, with various bars, nightclubs, and restaurants.  These locations vary in style.  Some are more posh and appropriate for high society, while other have a more rustic and popular charm.

Speaking of restaurants, you certainly do not want to miss food from Salvador.  There are specialty dishes for both fans of spicy food, as well as those who prefer simpler food, without many spices.  Highlights are fish, seafood, and Bahian dishes, as well as other option for more critical and selective palates.
